The Indian Police Foundation (IPF) held a one-day conference, in collaboration with Central Detective Training Institute, Jaipur (CDTI) and the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), on technological tools for countering child trafficking and missing children on 25th April 2025 at Jaipur, Rajasthan. The conference was an effort to tackle the constant and complex issue of child trafficking and missing children in India. The event gave a common stage to a diverse group of stakeholders, including veteran Law enforcement officials, Lawyers researchers, activists, technology experts and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), creating a multidisciplinary platform for dialogue and innovation.
The main aim of the conference was to recognize and address the real-world challenges faced by frontline stakeholders in preventing, detecting, and investigating cases of child trafficking. It also sought to identify and encourage the use of innovative technological solutions to enhance institutional responses and enhance the effectiveness of the child protection system.
One of the main features of the event was an extensive presentation and discussion of the Vatsalya Portal, an integrated web platform that aims to automate efforts towards protecting children. The portal offers a platform for coordination between the public, NGOs, and government agencies through functionalities of missing child reporting, case tracking, access to related information, and monitoring the execution of child welfare schemes. Participants provided insights on how such websites are increasing transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to child protection actions in different regions of the nation.
In totality, the conference was an important step toward building cross-sectoral collaboration and harnessing innovation to protect the rights and well-being of vulnerable children. It reiterated the combined commitment of all stakeholders to the fight against child trafficking through technology-enabled, people-focused means.
