Police Reforms Day, Annual Conference and Youth Conclave, 2018

As in the past three years, the Annual Conference of the Indian Police Foundation was held on the 22nd September, which day has also been observed as ‘Police Reforms Day’ to mark the anniversary of the historic Prakash Singh judgement by the Supreme Court of India.  This year’s conference, held at the India International Centre New Delhi, was attended by nearly 250 persons – including serving and retired police officers, civil servants, activists, NGOs and civil society.

Speakers included Justice BS Chauhan, Chairman of the 21st Law Commission, Dr Satyapal Singh Minister of State for HRD, Shri Amitabh Kant CEO Niti Ayog, Shri Rajiv Gauba, Home Secretary, Shri Rajiv Jain, Director Intelligence Bureau, Smt Maja Daruwala, Senior Advisor, CHRI, Shri Vipul Mudgal, Director, Common Cause and Shri Prakash Singh, Chairman, Indian Police Foundation. 

The highlight of this year’s Conference was the Youth Conclave, comprising two separate vision-setting sessions. The first, by Young Police Leaders, had a panel of 12 selected young IPS officers drawn from different States, was moderated by Shri Praveen Swami, Senior Journalist. 

The second, the Young Citizen Visionaries’  panel, had 12 bright, young, highly accomplished women and men, already youth icons in their own right.  Panelists included 2 NITI Ayog economists, lawyers, entrepreneurs, corporate & social leaders, authors and journalists. This session was moderated by Smt Radhika Gupta, CEO Edelweiss AMC.
