EVENT UPDATE
Interactive Student Workshops on Policing, Safety & Child Rights
Dreams are not always born in cities. I felt their quiet power as I stepped out of the lecture hall at SKN Higher Secondary Vidyalaya, Jobner, Rajasthan—a school modest in resources but overflowing with energy, curiosity, and unpolished brilliance.
A group of girls gathered around me for photographs, their excitement filling the corridor. In that brief moment, one girl, almost whispering through her hesitation, asked how she could prepare for the UPSC exam. She was only in Class 9. Yet her eyes—steady, searching, and astonishingly resolute—told a larger story: a story of intention, of hunger for change, of a determination carved out of everyday struggle.
That is the India I believe in—where dreams rise not from privilege, but from grit; where children carry ambitions larger than their circumstances; where hope survives despite the weight of challenges.
As I walked back, I found myself silently wishing that our sensitisation programme had sparked a few more such fires among the 300 young faces before me. Perhaps, in that humble schoolyard, a handful of futures had just found their direction.
My heartfelt gratitude to Vimala Mehra Ma’am and Poonam Ma’am for steering a five-day training programme with unwavering commitment, even amidst challenges. Their quiet strength, discipline and dignity—one shaped by years in the IPS and the other by steadfast professionalism—set the tone for every session.
Thank you for standing tall, guiding gently, and reminding us once again how deeply impactful determined women leaders can be.
— O.P. Singh, President & CEO, IPF
The Indian Police Foundation team — led by Smt. Poonam Arora and Smt. Vimla Mehra, IPS (Retd.) — conducted a series of enriching and highly interactive workshops for students on policing, traffic rules, cyber safety, disaster management, child rights, juvenile justice, and basic forensics.
The programme was also attended by Shri Amod K. Kant, who explained the purpose of juvenile homes, child protections under the Constitution, and key safeguards under POCSO in a manner that deeply resonated with the children.
Students participated enthusiastically in questionnaires, group tasks, role plays, and hands-on activities such as fingerprint examination and handwriting analysis. Field visits to the police station and fire station added meaningful real-world exposure, with demonstrations on CPR, first aid, and fire safety.
Shri O.P. Singh, President & CEO of the Indian Police Foundation, personally visited the programme and interacted with the children. During his session, he discussed child rights, personal safety, and the importance of speaking up when something feels wrong. The students were highly responsive — asking thoughtful questions, sharing their experiences, and actively engaging in scenario-based discussions.
