Sudhir Kumar Former Vigilance Commissioner
An outstanding police official of the country known for his professionalism, integrity and commitment, Mr Sudhir Kumar retired as Secretary (Security) to Government of India. In a career span of 41 years, he served in several vital positions, handling complex and sensitive assignments. The last tenure of four years, which ended on Nov. 29, 2009, was a statutory assignment of Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission of India, having countrywide jurisdiction over the vigilance administration of all Central Government establishments, including the Central Ministries, Central Public Sector undertakings (CPSUs), Public Sector Banks and Centrally funded public bodies.
Mr Sudhir Kumar’s earlier assignments with the Maharashtra State Police, the Intelligence Bureau (MHA), the Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) and the Cabinet Secretariat covered a wide range of responsibilities in the areas of district policing, crime control/ investigation, State Police administration and reforms, security/ intelligence operations, international liaison and coordination, VVIP Security and apex level administration. His field postings gave him valuable firsthand experience of several major states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar and Punjab, besides a diplomatic assignment in Germany.
